One evening last week, starting at about 8:30, my neighborhood experienced a 13-hour electrical outage. Fortunately, I had a few candles burning with additional lighting coming from the moon and stars reflecting through my windows. Within a few minutes I was able to locate my flashlights and additional candles.
Once I got myself re-situated and resigned with the idea of no electricity, I recognized my experience of temporary darkness as a wake-up call. I spent a few minutes playing out ‘what if’ scenarios in my head. What if this was an earthquake or other natural disasters? I asked myself, what would I need to stay safe in my home without electricity for a few days? Am I prepared? I began to evaluate how much water, batteries, food I could eat without preparation, was my cell phone fully charged and so on down the list. It turned out, for the most part; I was prepared to make it for a few days if it would be required.
As the lights go out on 2009 and we look to our new cycle to begin, are you prepared? In Human Design we recognize beginnings and the start of the new cycle when the Sun enters Gate 41, Decrease. (Read more about Gate 41 Decrease, Less is More) So yes, on January 1, 2010 the calendar changed from one year to the next. But the energy for beginnings and starting things is January 21 at 7:38 PM Pacific Time.
Perhaps you’ve felt some resistance to getting your engines fully up and running these first weeks of January. Have you found you’re still clearing up and sorting through projects and people from the past? This is a great time to revisit and revise your resolutions/goals/intentions you’ve set to accomplish this year. I’ve noticed calls and emails from clients bare a common theme. “I know this is going to be a really big year for me and I want to make sure I don’t miss my chance.” Are you feeling 2010 is a pivotal year for you as well?
We’ve read and heard from our thought-leaders, economist, scientists, astrologers and other experts that we are going through dramatic shifts and rapid changes here on planet earth. We are on our way to experience more changes in our climates, corporate and financial infrastructures as well as new and better ways for agriculture, health care and education systems to name a few. As above, so below… Changes and innovations are permeating, pushing us all deeper into our own inner revolution.
Check list for navigating the changes ahead:
Know where you’re going. Ask yourself: What is my passion? What do I really want to do? What is my soul’s purpose? If I knew I could not fail, what would I do with my life? If I had all the money I needed, would I still be doing what I’m doing?
“Follow your bliss.” These wise words from Joseph Campbell can serve as a guide post for you in the coming cycle. Check in with yourself every day, 100 times a day, to assess your thinking and your doing. Ask yourself, is what I’m doing or thinking in this moment taking me closer to my bliss or further away? Or is it neutral?
Last fall I put myself through this series of questions which began a powerful pull in me to let go of a couple of projects I was working on. Just like the domino game I liked to play in my youth, one by one, people and projects fell away leaving me with ample empty space in my life for me to do what I really want to do – teach and facilitate positive change. Yes,the letting go was uncomfortable. I’ve learned change is much easier when I participant rather than resist.
What steps can you take today to move you closer to your bliss?
Know who you are. The greatest gift you can give yourself and the world is to be who you are. Knowing who you are is one thing – living and behaving authentically is another. For many years I was one person at work, another person with my family and another when I did not feel the pressures of the norms. I pursued many studies but particularly Human Design to help me bridge this gap Human Design is based on modern science and ancient wisdom which clearly and accurately maps our strengths and vulnerabilities. This knowledge can help you let go of unrealistic expectations, self-condemnation and resistance. Knowing your strengths and your vulnerabilities is essential to maneuver smoothly in the times ahead.

Nurture your mind, body and soul. People’s lives are jam-packed with projects, goals and obligations resulting in little if any time for self care. Have you noticed, when it comes to self care, simple is smart? It is a bunch of little simple things that add up to significant benefits.
What are the two or three simple things you’re going to do to gain a higher level of well being this year? Here are some ideas to help you get started: reduce your salt and alcohol intake, less TV, more sleep, worry less, smile more, 10 minutes of quiet time AM and/or PM, dance more, plant food or flowers. Go to your calendar now and block out personal time to nurture yourself and increase your personal well being. A peaceful inner world recognizes and attracts a more peaceful and harmonious outer world.
Are your batteries charged and flashlights close at hand? Prepared or not – the new cycle is beginning and the changes are going to come at a faster rate than previously. Indeed, it will be an interesting year. I’m looking forward to assisting and contributing to you in any way I can.
